Interview Questions and Answers
____________________________________

1. Why did you write this book?
I was compelled after my dad broke his 63 year silence and began to tell us what he did during the war. The stories were so amazing that I just had to share them with others.

2. Why did your father change his mind and begin to tell you his story?
When his duffel bag was returned to him after being lost for 54 years was the catalyst that made him ready to talk about his experiences. Before that he would only tell us the funny stories that he was comfortable in telling.

3. What makes this WWII book different?
This is a true story that provides the reader a glimpse of pre-war hometown USA compared to the death and devastation that was prevalent in Europe. It places you there and gives you a sense of what they were feeling and what they left behind. It tracks the exact movements of the medical clearing company as they followed the major battles of the war such as D-Day, St. Lo, Market Garden, Battle of the Bulge, and driving the Germans down the cologne plain to liberate the concentration camps in Bavaria.

4. Who would enjoy reading this book?
The book has many facets that would appeal to a wide range of readers. It’s a war story, a love story, a story that provides view of the war through the eyes of a medical technician that provided comfort and treatment to those wounded. It chronicles the war effort and the horrors of the concentration camps.

5. Is this another MASH story?
No, it’s a true story. However, that is an interesting question. It could easily be construed the first hospitalonwheels@earthink.net story that was true. It has its lighter moments where the medics get into and out of some very scary and humorous situations. They worked hard and played hard. You will get a good laugh as the book describes some of their lighter moments.

6. What helped you the most in writing this book?
I would have to begin with interviewing my father and the company journal that identified the date, unit and location showing the movements of the 662 Medical Clearing Company.

7. What is your background?
I have recently retired from a state agency where I was employed as an information technology and project manager. I have written journal articles, technical documents and manuals for the last twenty years.
